Merry Christmas! Ho Ho Ho!

Wreath. With holly leaves and bells, this wreath measures approximately 11 x 11 inches. The bells are 4 inches high. This was made from a kit of precut glass with pattern supplied. The circle of holly leaves and berries is affixed to a heavy steel nickel-plated ring, while lead came shaped to look like ribbon supports the bells. The cluster of holly leaves at the top is a 3-layer stack with two berries making a 4th layer. I had never worked with that many tiers before, and was delighted with the 3-dimensional result it produces. (Click the picture for a larger view.) Wreath

Holly leaves and berries More holly leaves and berries, 5 inches tall. This was my very first stained glass project. My brother Jack, who lives 1500 miles away, had been working with stained glass for some time. His telling me about it aroused my interest. While we were visiting him later, he provided the pattern, tools, and the supplies for this project, and he patiently coached me through the various steps required to bring it to completion. What a thrill it was to see it finished! From then on I was hooked on doing stained glass.

Most of the projects I've made have been given away as gifts. This one, however, will be kept and treasured for years and years. (Click the picture for a larger view.)

Christmas bell, bow and holly leaves. This bell uses two bevels and a section of light-blue glass to give it a splash of color. Overall it is 6-1/2 inches high, excluding the chain. One of the holly leaves is underlaid, so as not to rise up on the adjacent bevel. (Click the picture for a larger view.) Christmas bell

Christmas bell Candy cane. It wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas candy, and that includes candy canes. This stained-glass cane, 5-1/2 inches tall, is constructed with copper foil but has hobby-size lead came around its perimeter. (Click the picture for a larger view.)

Tea-light candle holder. Christmas decorations traditionally use brilliant reds and bright greens. This one is no exception, a Christmassy tea-light candle holder of my own design, made using foil. The oval piece of glass beneath the orange flame at the top suggests this is a 3-D object, but the candle and flame are flat. The holly leaves are an overlay. Standing 7 inches tall, the candle assembly sits on a clear glass base (not visible in this view). Two clear side pieces with a ripple texture support the glass candle and also shield the tea-light candle flame from any breezes. The red and green colors shimmer as they are illuminated from behind with the flame of the tea-light candle. (Click the picture for a larger view.) Tealight candle holder
